WHO: Proudly recognized its 40th anniversary in July of 2018, the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation is comprised of an all-volunteer board currently consisting of 16 individuals dedicated to Westfield Memorial Hospital; it values our community and quality of life. The board meets monthly to strategically plan and execute fundraising programs for the purchase of needed hospital equipment.
WMH is a not-for-profit, primary care hospital, founded in 1942, serving the healthcare needs of more than 28,000 citizens of 14 towns and villages in a 375-square-mile rural area of northwestern Chautauqua County. There were 24,000 patient visits in 2017 alone.

WMH will also continue to evaluate the medical needs of the community, explore potential new services, and plan for further updates to the services WMH provide as appropriate, all with the assistance and input of our associates and members of our medical staff. A helipad is conveniently located behind the hospital for emergency transportation to our affiliate, Saint Vincent Health System (SVHS), which is part of the Allegheny Health Network, the trauma center at Hamot Medical Center, located in Erie, PA, or the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, NY, when a higher level of care is required.
WMH prides itself in two areas:
1. We know we provide sensitive, personal and high quality care. We see it in the faces of those to whom we deliver healthcare services.
2. We strive to keep the cost of healthcare down. We will do everything possible to care for you on an “outpatient” basis. It is less expensive to care for you without admitting you for an overnight stay. If it is necessary to admit you to the hospital, we deliver that quality care in the most cost efficient manner possible.
WHAT: The Annual Campaign (clearly one of the building blocks of critical financial support) is the most important function of the foundation. This year’s Annual Campaign Goal is $245,000, which will undoubtedly help us to continue to provide funding for cutting-edge diagnostic equipment.
The WMH Capital Equipment Budgets for the last five years included funds for the Emergency Department Upgrade, Operating Room, Cardiac Rehab and Physical Therapy Departments, Diabetes Education, facility upgrades & repairs and technology upgrades totaling more than $1M.
Major financing came from the support of the WMH Foundation with several grants from local community foundations and banks. In addition, the foundation was able to add to its endowment maintained by the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.
Over the last seven annual campaigns, we have raised close to $1.6 M designated for equipment, endowment and unrestricted gifts for the hospital. Philanthropy at WMH has helped provide a new High Definition Imaging System to aid surgeons in minimally invasive surgery, Physical Therapy equipment, cardiac care equipment and a new surgical microscope to aid ophthalmologists in cataract eye surgery. Recently the Radiology Department added an impressive 3 D/4-D Logix Ultrasound machine – the only one of its kind in Northern Chautauqua County.
WHERE: The Annual Campaign is conducted throughout the 14 communities* served by WMH including *Ashville, Bemus Point, Brocton, Chautauqua, Clymer, Dewittville, Findley Lake, Mayville, Panama, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield.
WHEN: The Annual Campaign takes place throughout calendar year 2018 until December 31st.
HOW: Building relationships with individuals, businesses and foundations throughout our service area and beyond.
